After living in New Orleans for over a quarter century, the magic of the place seeped deep into my blood. Although, in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the city changed greatly and I eventually moved away, it left an indelible mark on my soul. Of the unique features that call to me still, the most compelling are the ‘cities of the dead’, the cemeteries filled with ornate above-ground vaults that dot the city. The most stunning of these is Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery.

Even before moving to New Orleans, I spent a dozen years living overseas. Travel is something that too few among us get to do as much or as often as we should. As wide as the horizons are in the southwest, the world is a much, much wider place. I encourage everyone to go out and see it for themselves. Failing that, maybe I can share some of what I have seen with you.
